Jacobsbaai is a hidden gem.

It is a beautiful, quiet, protected seaside village halfway between Saldanha and Vredenburg and is centrally situated to explore the beautiful West Coast region and its attractions. Jacobsbaai is close to amenities, such as a private hospital, golf courses, a shopping mall, restaurants, and many more.

It is the perfect place to break away from city life where you can relax and swim in the Atlantic Ocean, stroll down the beach or just sit and watch the breathtaking sunsets with a glass of good South African wine.

There is still lots to do for the adrenalin junkies and thrill seekers, such as surfing, sailing, wind and kite surfing, kayaking, crayfish diving, deep-sea fishing, mountain biking, hiking and many more.

Jacobsbaai is a fisherman’s paradise with the Atlantic Ocean providing an abundance of seafood like Crayfish, Galjoen (South Africa's National fish), Kabeljou, Cape Hottentot, White Steenbras and Black Mussels.

You will find fresh Crayfish in season, it usually starts sometime in November and ends around mid-April. Crayfish may only be caught by snorkelling – no scuba gear may be used.

Activities in and around Jacobsbaai:
Hiking trails

You can hike to Tietiesbaai from Jacobsbaai starting at Hospital Bay. It is a 17km trail that follows the coast line along the beaches. There is also various hiking routes from the West Coast National Park.

Mountain Biking

The West Coast National Park is great for scenic mountain biking, or explore the beautiful town of Jacobsbaai with your mountain bike.

Kayaking

Kayaks and paddle skis can easily be launched in Jacobsbaai, Smalbaai or Mauritzbay. Kayaking is the best way to explore the beautiful Langebaan Lagoon. Bring your own or rent one at Cape Sports Center in Langebaan.

Kite and Windsurfing

Kite and windsurf enthusiasts flock to the Langebaan Lagoon. Spend your holiday learning how to kite or windsurf at the Cape Sports Center in Langebaan.

Surfing

Surfing is the oldest form of wave riding! Even though it is the oldest it is still the most popular! The Cape SportS Center is fortunate enough to be located near the mouth of the Langebaan Lagoon which is an ideal place for children and adults to learn how to surf or body board.

Crayfish diving and Fishing

Jacobsbaai has always been known for the abundance of crayfish found here, which makes it an ideal spot for crayfish diving during crayfish season. A South Arican crayfish diving permit or license must be obtained before you can dive. Get your permit from a local Post Office. There are lots of Onsevis (previously Hotnotsvis) and Galjoen in the small inlets and at Mauritzbay. From the sandy beaches of Jacobsbaai and Swartriet Kabeljou and White Steenbras are often caught. Smaller fish like Harders also abound and the kids can have lots of fun catching some smaller species in the multitude of rock pools.

Whale Watching

The best time of the year to spot whales at Jacobsbaai is during August to September. Some species that can be spotted are Humpback, Southern Right, Sperm Whales, Orca and the Long Fin Pilot whale. They are mainly seen in the mouth of Mauritzbay and just beyond Bamboesbaai’s edge.

Wildlife and Bird Watching

Various rare bird species can be seen in Jacobsbaai. For a vast range of birds and antelope you can visit the West Coast National Park.

Flower Season

Jacobsbaai is known as the "Namaqualand of the West Coast". The best time to view flowers depends on the rain season, but usually they are in bloom from August until September. With late rains October is also alive with colour. During the entire year Jacobsbaai has unique plant species that bloom at various times.

Shopping

The West Coast Mall is merely 14km from Jacobsbaai. All modern amenities can be found here with major brands such as Woolworths, Clicks, Edgars, Fochini, Checkers, etc. "Die Winkeltjie" is a small shop in Jacobsbaai, where you can buy all the basics, like bread, milk, chocolates, chips, etc.

Mykonos Casino

The Club Mykonos Casino, Greek in theme, is located on the shores of the Langebaan Lagoon. The casino is popular with day visitors.
